Andrew Wiggins, ESPN Top Recruit, Becomes a Jayhawk

Alright, I’m bias when it comes to the Kansas Jayhawks and Big 12 Basketball. However, when the top ranked high school player in the country picks your team you get a little hype.

Andrew Wiggins, 18, is a 6-foot-8 small forward from Huntington Prep School in West Virginia. I haven’t seen him play but I do know this McDonald’s All-American was one of the most sought after players in the country. He has the ability to play multiple positions just to demonstrate how versatile he is. What position would we compare him to today….food for thought.

Before finally choosing to be coached by Bill Self, men’s basketball head coach, Wiggins had options. He passed over Kentucky, North Carolina and Florida State as some of his options. Kentucky is losing their playmaker, Nerlens Noel, to the NBA draft and desperately need to bounce back from a very uncharacteristic year from John Calipari. Admittedly, North Carolina blue would look good on Wiggins however, Jayhawk red and blue suit him.

High School Coach Rob Fulford on ESPN.com

“I think he’s going to be a great college player but I think he’ll be a better pro because of the way the defenses are. You can’t guard him in space.”

Check out Wiggins in action:

Russel Westbrook Will Undergo Surgery For Meniscus Tear

Russell Westbrook will undergo surgery for a right meniscus tear the Oklahoma City Thunder announced Friday.

Statement From The Thunder:

“Our players’ health is our first and foremost concern. The Thunder’s medical team and several specialists we consulted with determined that Russell undergo a procedure to address the issue,” said Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti in a release. “We have thoroughly discussed this with Russell. Despite being the competitor and teammate that he is, he respects and understands the decision and is committed to come back even stronger. Certainly Russell is a leader and core player for this team, but we are in the midst of the playoffs and I know other players are determined to step up and contribute. We have a resilient group of players who have always taken pride in playing as a team and that approach will continue.”

The OKC All-Star guard, Westbrook, will miss his first game in NBA career. There is no announcement of a probable timetable for Westbrook to make a return.

This is a huge set back for the Thunder’s title contention. They were favorites along with the Miami Heat to return to the NBA Finals.

According to CBS Sports:
The injury happened in the second quarter of Game 2 against the Rockets, presumably when Patrick Beverley tried to steal the ball from Westbrook after he had signaled for a timeout.
