Mayweather Pleads Guilty to Domestic Violence and Harassment Charges

Floyd Mayweather with his manager in court on Wednesday

Boxer Floyd Mayweather was sentenced Wednesday to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to domestic violence battery and harassment charges due to an incident in September 2010. The incident involved Mayweather’s ex-girlfriend and their two children together.

The plea deal avoids a trail for the original felony charges that Mayweather had faced for hitting and threatening his ex-girlfriend in front of their children. Then he took her i-phone, which is why the original charges were felony charges. It is reported that the altercation was caused by Mayweather’s ex dating another man.

His attorney Karen Winckler may file appeal, clamming the sentence was “unusual”.

If there is no appeal Floyd is due to report for his jail sentence in the new year on January 6, 2012. Mayweather’s imprisonment can have a big effect on his career, and the possibilities of a proposed fight with Manny Pacquiao in May. Don’t get me wrong their have been fighters who rebound from prison sentences, some even have came to fame after imprisonment.

If Floyd does jail time I hope the stint in jail will humble the undefeated champ a bit. I have always been a fan of his inside of the ring. Yet, lately I have been annoyed (at times entertained) at some of his bravado and antics outside the ring. Floyd needs to stop, and let his performance in the ring do the talking. And let your fists fly in the ring, you are not above getting away with putting your hands on a woman.

I’m currently an ashamed Floyd Mayweather fan.
