After years of forgettable seasons, and one the Nets wished to forget, they get a clean start. The move to Brooklyn is one that will energize this franchise. The Nets are already off to a good start before they move to their new building in downtown Brooklyn.
Secured Franchise Player
The Nets have secured their franchise player Deron Williams on tuesday. The 2 time NBA-All Star Deron Williams who the Nets made a gamble to trade for, decided to resign and make the move to Brooklyn. The Nets have a tremendous building block in Deron Williams.
Deron Williams is arguably the best point guard in the league. He is a well rounded player that can do everything on the court well. He is a great passer with incredible court vision, can get to the rim at will and strong enough to finish, can make shots from beyond the arc, and can defend. With the right pieces around him the Nets are in playoff contention.
The Right Pieces
The Nets have been aggressive this offseason in trying to get a great roster for the home opener in Brooklyn. They got Joe Johnson via trade from the Hawks, and are still active in trying to get Dwight Howard in Brooklyn. The team as constructed now is far from a championship contender but they seem to be going in the right direction. If they don’t continue to put pieces around Williams they will be nothing more than a mediocre playoff team.
Remaining Relevant
The Brooklyn Nets will be entering their new arena with a lot of fan fare surrounding them. If they land Dwight Howard or not fans will be excited about the team. But, if they remain in mediocrity New York fans will turn on them. The Nets may get a great start but they must insure they don’t lose their intensity in striving to be a contender in the East.
