Developing NFL Storylines To Follow This Season
We are into Week 3 of the NFL season, and we have seen some great football. There has also been great storylines in this season. I’ll list 3 story lines I think are the most intriguing.
Peyton Manning’s Return
After being out a season due to his neck injury, Manning is trying to get back to his old self. Peyton has thus far struggled with the Broncos, while trying to get accumulated to his new team and back in game shape.
In two games Manning hasn’t quite seemed himself. Especially in the first quarter of the game in Atlanta, in which Manning threw 3 interceptions. Manning and the Broncos than got their composure after the 1st quarter, scoring 3 touchdowns.
I will be watching to see is whether Manning struggles are due to working his way back into game shape and adjusting to the Broncos. Or is the NFL legend is way past his prime?
The development of young quarterbacks have definitely sped up in the last few years. Rookie quarterbacks drafted high are now expected to produce right away, opposed to sitting and learning the game. This year there is 5 starting rookie quarterbacks in the NFL. There is the 1 and 2 overall picks Andrew Luck(43-76,533 YDS,3 TD,1 INT,75.2 Passer Rating) and Robert Griffin III(39-55,526 YDS,3 TD,1 INT,111.6 PR) respectively with the Colts and Redskins. Ryan Tannehill(38-66,419 YDS,1 TD,3 INT,62.6 PR) with the Dolphins, Brandon Weeden(38-72,44 YDS,2 TD,4 INT,57.6 PR) with the Browns, and Russell Wilson with the Seahawks(33/54,304 YDS,2 TD,1 INT,81.1 PR).
This quarterbacks have seen there share of success and failures already in this short season. They all share a 1-1 record with their respective teams. This will be an interesting class of QB’s, with 4 out of the 5 them throwing over 400 yards in their first two games.
Who will come out on top of this rookie class of QBs? So far RG3 is leading the way.
The New Orleans Saints have started the season 0-2. Clearly the loss of their coach Sean Payton has had a huge impact on their team. The two lost were games that were perceived easy wins, against the Carolina Panthers and the Washington Redskins. Their defense was hit hard by two young QBs in Robert Griffin III and Cam Newton. And, their high octane offense didn’t seem to be running on all cylinders either.
The Saints veterans need to come together and rally this team. Without Payton at the helm everyone must work harder to getting things to run smother. Will the Saints continue to struggle or will they bounce back?
More to Come
As the season goes on there will be more storylines popping up. I predict this season to be extremely eventful with a lot of surprises.
