Venus and her younger sister Serena have been dominating forces in tennis since they came on the scene in the late 90′s. The two of them have won 87 singles titles,and 21 grand slam singles titles between them. As a duo Venus and Serena have won 22 doubles titles and 13 grand slams.
Sibling Rivalry
What makes the Williams sisters so special is that they have consistently been the best two players in tennis at the same time. In 2002 Venus and Serena were ranked number 1 and 2 in the world respectively; and did it again in 2010.
Venus and Serena have met a total of 23 times including an incredible 8 grand slam finals. Serena getting the best of her sister Venus winning 13-10 in all, and 6-2 in grand slam finals.
Resurgence To The Top
For the past couple of years Venus and Serena have struggled with injuries and serious illness. Both sisters are slowly working their way back to the top of their sport. Serena having the best year of the two, wining her first gold medal about a month after the winning Wimbledon.
Legacy
The William’s sisters are not only all time greats in tennis but arguably one of the greatest families in sports history. No other family has had the individual and combined success of Venus and Serena. They have also raised the profile of their sport like no one else. They were instrumental in the increase of prize money for women in tennis.
Venus and Serena Williams have had a tight grip on women’s tennis for 14 years and don’t seem to stop anytime soon.
